The Major Role Labeling Plays in the Food Industry
Have you ever purchased a family order of fast food or Chinese take-out and ended up not being able to indicate who’s meal is who? Especially because it all looks the same? It’s safe to say that this happens due to the lack of identification—or more specifically—the lack of labeling. Labels are used in most food industries, especially in fast food joints, and it seems like we never pay much attention to them until we find ourselves frustrated with our orders and not being able to tell the food apart. Let’s go into why labeling our food is important and how we can improve on this.
Practicing Food Sanitation
One responsibility that employees in the food industry have to carry out successfully is making sure the food products are safe to consume. Employees will take temperatures of the food, restock to sustain fresh products, and most importantly- make sure everything is labeled. Labeling food that is prepared to be cooked should have effective and expiration dates. If food is not properly labeled with the correct correlating dates, a cook could accidentally prepare expired food, a customer could notice the taste and become dissatisfied, encouraged to make a complaint and this would all be due to the recklessness of simply not labeling food.
Not only do foods need to be labeled, but they also have to be identified specifically. So, for example, if you order a sandwich with no onions, but wish to add cheese, the packaging has to have some type of label that identifies it has no onions but contains cheese. This could also mislead cooks and cause them to choose the wrong food product to prepare and give customers another form of dissatisfaction. Another instance that misinformation can be seen is, for example, when food is being given out in drive-thrus. Sometimes, food will be returned from customers out of irritation and it could discourage them from returning to that restaurant in the future. Labeling helps food employees be mindful of what the customers want and expect.
It may seem questionable as to how labels could bring down the business of a restaurant, but it is due to the simple fact that labels show customers that you are reliable and organized. Contact Top Labels today so that we can provide the labels you need for your business!
